Energy Cells: What to Check Before You Start
Hunting down Ori and the Blind Forest energy cell locations gives you more energy capacity for Soul Links and energy-consuming abilities. Those extra blue spheres make exploration more forgiving, especially when a detour puts lasers, crushers, or spikes between you and the next pickup. This guide organizes Ori and the Blind Forest energy cell locations around recognizable landmarks, with ability requirements and warnings for the original game's missable areas.
Energy Cells increase your maximum energy. For the Powerhouse achievement, you need to collect all Energy Cells.
Before following a route, check which edition you're playing. The original game's restrictions matter when planning a complete collection run.
| Area or landmark | What to check | Collection reminder |
|---|---|---|
| Energy doors in Sunken Glade and Moon Grotto | The routes below each include a door requiring four energy points | Arrive with enough energy to open the door |
| Ginso Tree, original edition | An Energy Cell lies along the portal route | Collect it during your visit |
| Misty Woods, original edition | An Energy Cell appears during the mist sequence | Check before clearing the mist |
| Mount Horu, original edition | Entering prevents a return to the rest of Nibel | Finish your other collection routes beforehand |
Use the checklists below to track individual pickups. Several routes depend on later abilities, so leave the Charge Jump and restored-wind detours for the appropriate stage of your adventure.

Sunken Glade Energy Cell Locations
Sunken Glade rewards return visits. Its Energy Cells include a straightforward Wall Jump pickup, a laser puzzle, and a submerged passage that becomes accessible after the water is restored.

For these Ori and the Blind Forest energy cell locations, distinguish the route across the pond from the underwater corridor. They involve different approaches, and the swimming route depends on story progress.
| Pickup landmark | Where to go | How to reach the Energy Cell |
|---|---|---|
| Wall Jump Ancestral Tree | Rocks immediately to the right of the tree | Use your newly acquired Wall Jump to climb the rocks |
| Four-energy door | Puzzle rooms beyond the energy door | Break the cracked floor with a diving enemy, then position the movable rock against the laser |
| Underwater air pocket | Narrow submerged corridor | After restoring the water, swim left through the corridor into the air pocket |
| Pond platforms | Hallway beyond the pond's left bank | Cross using the platforms, land on the left, and follow the hallway |
The four-energy-door pickup takes more setup than the others:
- Open the door and deal with the enemies inside.
- Get the diving enemy to smash the cracked floor.
- Jump across the opening and push the rock into it.
- Drop behind the rock and push it forward, keeping it between Ori and the laser.
- Use the rock as a platform to reach the Energy Cell above.
Keep the rock positioned as cover while crossing the laser's path. Its role changes at the end of the puzzle: once it has protected your approach, it also supplies the height needed for the pickup.
Before the water is restored, take the platform route across the pond. Return for the submerged corridor afterward.
- Climb beside the Wall Jump tree.
- Complete the rock-and-laser puzzle.
- Swim to the left-side air pocket.
- Follow the hallway beyond the pond.
Hollow Grove and Moon Grotto Energy Cells
Hollow Grove's detours involve Bash, hidden passages, and a later Charge Jump route. Moon Grotto adds moving crushers and a longer puzzle involving rocks and enemy projectiles.

When checking Ori and the Blind Forest energy cell locations in these areas, look beyond the pickup's position. The approach can loop around from another room, particularly where a wall prevents a direct climb.
| Area and landmark | Route to the Energy Cell | Ability or obstacle |
|---|---|---|
| Hollow Grove: fallen trunk over lava | Bash across the lava, land on the trunk, and follow it right into the small cave | Bash using enemies and projectiles |
| Hollow Grove: poles above water | Launch into the overhead shaft, climb, then cross the spikes from the ceiling rocks | Charge Jump and Wall Jump |
| Hollow Grove: apparent dead end | Jump over the spikes and continue into the concealed passage | Spikes before the entrance |
| Moon Grotto: crusher platform | Approach from below, climb on the right, and ride the crusher upward | Timed crusher movement |
| Moon Grotto: looping upper corridor | Enter from the right beyond the crushers, climb the left wall, and follow the corridor left | Wall Jump and spikes |
| Moon Grotto: four-energy door | Move rocks to block the laser and arrange an enemy shot to break the overhead platform | Four energy points and a rock puzzle |
Hollow Grove: Cross the Lava and Check the Ceiling Route
At the lava crossing, use Bash on enemies and their projectiles to travel over the hazard. Land on the fallen tree trunk, watch for the enemy there, and head right down the trunk into the cave.
For the Charge Jump pickup, cross the poles rising from the water and launch upward from a central pole. Wall Jump through the vertical passage, grab the ceiling rocks on the left, and Charge Jump across the spikes. Deal with the enemy at the landing, then follow the corridor right.
The remaining route rewards checking a misleading boundary. Clear the spikes and continue toward the apparent dead end to enter the passage containing the cell.
Moon Grotto: Ride the Crusher and Set Up the Projectile
For the crusher pickup, drop down and work around to the open area. Climb on the right, wait for the crusher to descend, then ride it back up to the Energy Cell's platform.
The looping corridor has a different entrance. From its right side, beyond the stone crushers, climb the left wall. Travel left over the spikes and look for the cell on a small platform to your right as the corridor begins descending.
Inside the four-energy door:
- Push the initial rock off its ledge to block the laser.
- Cross the gap and climb between the walls, avoiding the spikes.
- Push the upper rock down.
- Guide that rock into the small gap beyond the blocked laser.
- Drop after it and push it right off the next platform.
- Position it beneath the breakable overhead platform so an enemy projectile shatters the obstruction.
- Wall Jump up to collect the cell on the right.
- Collect Hollow Grove's lava, ceiling-route, and concealed-passage cells.
- Collect Moon Grotto's crusher, looping-corridor, and energy-door cells.
Ginso Tree, Misty Woods, and Thornfelt Swamp
These Ori and the Blind Forest energy cell locations deserve separate attention because Ginso Tree and Misty Woods contain missable pickups in the original edition. Thornfelt Swamp's cell instead calls for the restored wind and a controlled glide.

| Area | Location landmark | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Ginso Tree | Portal route among spike-lined platforms | Bash from enemy projectiles, cross the platform, drop left, and enter the portal |
| Misty Woods | Within the woods during the mist sequence | Search before completing the mist-clearing objective |
| Thornfelt Swamp | Broken tree trunk above the open water area | Ride the central updraft up and left from the lower-right log |
Ginso Tree: Take the Portal Detour
Use enemy projectiles to Bash upward without touching the spikes. Once above the platform, cross over it and drop down on the left. Enter the portal along this route to reach the Energy Cell.
In the original edition, collect this cell before leaving Ginso Tree. You cannot return later, so postponing it turns an optional detour into a missed collectible.
Keep this pickup separate from small Spirit Light rewards elsewhere in the tree. The Energy Cell is the permanent energy upgrade you're tracking for Powerhouse.
Misty Woods: Search During the Mist Sequence
Misty Woods contains an Energy Cell that does not appear on the normal map. In the original edition, it is missable during the changing woods sequence.
Check the elevated routes while exploring, and finish your search before clearing the mist. A map sweep elsewhere in Nibel will not account for this particular pickup.
Thornfelt Swamp: Glide Toward the Broken Trunk
After restoring the wind, start from the log above the water in the lower-right part of the open area. Enter the updraft in the middle and glide upward and left. Land on the broken tree trunk to collect the cell.
- Take Ginso Tree's portal detour.
- Collect the Misty Woods cell during the mist sequence.
- Glide to Thornfelt Swamp's broken trunk.
Valley of the Wind, Sorrow Pass, and Mount Horu
The later Ori and the Blind Forest energy cell locations combine underwater hazards with concealed entrances. Valley of the Wind requires navigating crushers and a lever, while Sorrow Pass and Mount Horu hide their cells behind surfaces that appear solid.
| Area | Starting landmark | Route to the Energy Cell |
|---|---|---|
| Valley of the Wind | Top entrance to the underwater corridor | Swim down past crushers, surface near the spikes and lever, then continue through the water |
| Sorrow Pass | Updraft leading toward the Keystone door | Ascend through the spikes and enter the hidden left wall across from the door |
| Mount Horu | Small platform directly beneath the cell | Jump through the concealed ceiling entrance and Wall Jump past the spikes |
Valley of the Wind: Complete the Underwater Loop
Dive into the corridor from its upper entrance and swim downward past the crushing stones. Surface, jump over the spikes, and operate the lever.
Return to the water to continue. Handle the enemies along the remaining route, then surface at the platform on the left to reach the Energy Cell.
Pause before each crusher and watch its movement before swimming through. The route includes several distinct stages; reaching the lever still leaves another underwater stretch before the pickup.
Sorrow Pass: Check Across From the Door
Ride the updraft through the spike-lined ascent, avoiding lava shots and gathering Keystones along the way. At the top, look across from the door.
The wall on the left conceals a small cavern. Move into that wall to reach the Energy Cell.
Mount Horu: Jump Through the Ceiling
Stand on the small platform below the Energy Cell's map position. Jump straight upward through the hidden ceiling passage, then Wall Jump past the spikes to reach the pickup.
For an original-edition run, finish checking Ori and the Blind Forest energy cell locations outside Mount Horu before entering. The mountain closes off your return to the rest of the forest.
- Finish Valley of the Wind's underwater route.
- Enter Sorrow Pass's concealed left-side cavern.
- Jump through Mount Horu's hidden ceiling passage.
FAQ
What do Energy Cells do in Ori and the Blind Forest?
Energy Cells increase your maximum energy, represented by blue spheres. That energy supports Soul Links and abilities such as Charge Flame.
Which Ori and the Blind Forest energy cell locations are missable?
In the original edition, collect the Ginso Tree Energy Cell during your visit and the Misty Woods cell during the mist sequence. Entering Mount Horu also prevents returning to earlier areas, so finish your collection routes elsewhere beforehand.
How do you reach the Energy Cell above the crusher in Moon Grotto?
Approach from below by taking the longer route around the unclimbable left wall. Climb on the right in the open area, wait for the crusher to lower, and ride it upward to the pickup's platform.
Which achievement requires every Energy Cell?
Powerhouse requires collecting all Energy Cells. Power Player is a separate achievement for collecting 200 Energy Shards.
